The EU AI Act entered into force in August 2024. Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, the Digital Omnibus on AI, entered into force on July 27, 2026, delaying key high-risk-system deadlines and adding targeted prohibitions and simplifications.

July 27, 2026 — EU Digital Omnibus on AI enters into force — Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 becomes law, delaying stand-alone Annex III high-risk obligations to December 2027 and product-embedded high-risk obligations to August 2028.
May 7, 2026 — EU AI Act Omnibus Deal — Co-legislators clinch provisional deal to delay high-risk AI rules to Dec 2027, exempt machinery products, ban nudifier apps
