Enacted laws

• Conversational AI Safety Act (SB 1297, 2026) — Chapter 249, signed March 31, 2026; effective July 1, 2027. Operators must disclose AI interactions in specified circumstances, adopt a suicidal-ideation response protocol, and apply added disclosure and content safeguards for minor account holders.
• SB 1227 (2026) — generative AI in public education. Chapter 71, signed March 19, 2026; effective July 1, 2026. The State Department of Education must develop a statewide K–12 generative AI framework, subject to state board approval, and local school districts and charter schools must adopt aligned use policies with privacy, accessibility and academic-integrity safeguards.
• HB 727 (2026) — explicit synthetic media. Chapter 121, signed March 25, 2026; effective July 1, 2026. It amends Idaho Code § 18-6606 on knowing disclosure or threatened disclosure of explicit synthetic media depicting an identifiable person.
