United States and China plan September AI talks
Five sources familiar with the plans told Reuters that the United States and China intend to hold talks in September on how to regulate risks from their rival frontier AI models.[1][2][3] The sources said the discussions were a significant outcome of the May Trump-Xi summit and would probably occur before Xi's planned September 24 visit to the United States, although no dates had been finalized.[2][3]
Four sources said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent would lead the American delegation, while the other participants, agenda, and location remained under consideration.[2][3] Reuters reported that the White House, State Department, and Treasury did not immediately comment, and that China's National Development and Reform Commission, cyberspace regulator, industry and foreign ministries, and State Council also did not immediately respond.[3]
