India weighs dedicated AI law
India's IT Secretary S. Krishnan said the government may consider a separate legal framework for artificial intelligence because existing legal tools addressed only initial AI challenges while newer risks are emerging.[1] The New Indian Express reported that the discussion arose alongside official concerns over cyber threats and deepfakes, including related issues such as VPN use, Chinese apps, and Meta platform accountability.[1] The development is significant for AI-law tracking because it indicates that India may shift from relying on existing statutes toward a dedicated AI regulatory framework.[1]
